Recently I was approached by the owner of Creative Tutors International, Inc. She had originally hosted the franchise website for her company as a subweb on her master site. Besides being difficult to maintain as a subweb, she was not getting the sort of traffic she had originally hoped for and wanted the site moved to its own domain with appropriate links between the master site and the franchise opportunity site. She also wanted some serious revisions made.
The amount of information originally included as part of the site was to be drastically edited, rewritten, and reduced. It was her feeling that the sheer volume of information was overwhelming.
Follow up:
As the site had matured...information had been added in a haphazard manner making the site difficult to navigate. In addition...the site presented this information in small bites. The site was made up of many pages with not much more than a paragraph or two presented per page. The number of pages in the site to be cut at least in half with the remaining information presented in a concise and intuitive manner. The load time for the pages was to be improved. In order to begin to improve the loading time the original html code was scraped and new templates were written in CSS for both the entry pages and the interior pages. The average number of lines of code per page was reduced from 250+ to 113. Additionally, the 50+ images, each in its own individual layer, which had been used to create the master header, menu bar, sidebar, and footer presentation were scraped as well. Single images were created for the header and footer for both the entry and interior pages. The old image menu was replaced with a CSS menu developed to mimic the original look. Spacing on the page was done with CSS rather than using "blank" images to manipulate the presentation.
The site was to be updated to include social networking capabilities including the creation of a Twitter account; the creation of a Facebook Fan Page; and the addition of a blog. Please visit Creative Tutors International to see the finished product.
